Default Automobile Engineering

Concerned with the design, planning and manufacture as well as the repair, maintenance and up gradation of all moving vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, etc. The automobile engineer looks into the upkeep of vehicles to ensure their proper, efficient and economical running.

The work includes, at times, the dismantling and overhauling of the vehicle. The engineer designs new models, keeping in view their performance, capacity, durability and appearance as well as the cost of both manufacture and maintenance. With increasing concern for pollution and fuel efficiency, these engineers also set standards of quality in such matters.

Necessary Qualifications

To become an automobile engineer, one must have a BE or B.Tech. in automobile engineering. Even degree holders in electrical or mechanical branch can go in for specialization in automobile engineering at the postgraduate level. Diploma holders can take the AMIE exam to be at par with degree holders.

Job Opportunities

These are with vehicle manufacturing and assembling plants in both private and public sectors, in maintenance and service stations, private transport companies and defense. Auto engineers are employed by state transport undertakings and insurance companies. Self-employment is also possible in setting up automobile garages or maintenance workshops.
